Context

‘Dissection Table with Tools’ is one of Hirst’s earliest ‘Fact’ paintings, originally exhibited at the first show of the series, ‘The Elusive Truth’, Gagosian Gallery New York in 2005. The work takes as its subject a detail from another of Hirst’s sculptures, ‘Adam and Eve (Banished from the Garden)' (1999). He explains: “The white sheet, being the only protection against those gruesome tools. You just know there is no longer blood running through the veins. Hope is gone. The party’s over.”[1]
