Curated by Eckhard Schneider for the PinchukArtCentre, Kiev, the exhibition included more than 100 works shown over four gallery levels and in a purpose-built cube in a courtyard outside the gallery.

Alongside important early works such as ‘A Thousand Years’ (1990), ‘With Dead Head’ (1991) and ‘Loving in a World of Desire’ (1996), ‘Requiem’ featured the first exhibition of works from Hirst’s series of oil on canvas ‘Blue Paintings’, which he had begun in 2006. Also included was a large collection of ‘Fact’ and ‘Biopsy’ paintings.

On the occasion of the exhibition, a publication was produced in two volumes, containing texts by Schneider and writer Michael Bracewell, and two conversations with Hirst and fellow artists Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince (Other Criteria/PinchukArtCentre, 2009).
