This ‘fact’ painting depicts the combination of antiretroviral pills used to treat the HIV/Aids virus, sat in an outstretched hand. When it was exhibited in Hirst’s major solo exhibition at the Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev in 2009 – ‘Requiem’, the painting was accompanied by a stainless steel cabinet, which included rows of the same cluster of pills. This pill cabinet, ‘Where There's a Will, There's a Way’ (2007) was originally sold as part of the (RED) charity auction organised by Hirst with the musician Bono, in association with Sotheby's and Gagosian Gallery in 2008. All proceeds from the sale went to the United Nations Foundation to support HIV/AIDS relief programmes in Africa conducted by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
