A selection of Hirst works that are held by ARTIST ROOMS are on display at the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, Orkney. Included alongside works such as the iconic lamb in formaldehyde, 'Away from the Flock' (1994) and an early spot painting, are a series of early collages, produced by Hirst in the mid-80s. Demonstrating Hirst's formative interest in collage and construction, these works are displayed alongside a number of pieces by Margaret Mellis (1914 – 2009) from the Pier Arts Centre Collection and on loan from Tate, highlighting the fascinating connection between the two artists.
The works on display are taken from ARTIST ROOMS, a collection of modern and contemporary art acquired for the nation by Tate and National Galleries of Scotland through the generosity of Anthony d'Offay, with additional support from other parties, including the Art Fund.
